Point cloud scanning (also called 3D laser scanning or LiDAR scanning) is the process of using laser technology to capture millions of 3D coordinate points representing the surfaces of physical objects and environments. Each point contains X, Y, Z coordinates and often includes color (RGB) and intensity information. Point clouds serve as the foundation for BIM modeling, 2D plan generation, and virtual tours.

Point Cloud Questions
Our Leica BLK360 G2 scanner achieves ±6mm accuracy (approximately ¼ inch) at 10 meters. According to ASPRS standards, this is considered survey-grade precision suitable for most architectural, engineering, and construction documentation needs.
We deliver point clouds in multiple industry-standard formats: E57 (ASTM E57 open standard), RCP/RCS (Autodesk Reality Capture), LAS/LAZ (ASPRS standard), and PTS/PTX (Leica native formats).
On-site scanning typically completes in a single day for most buildings. The BLK360 G2 captures a full 360° scan in under 3 minutes. Processing and delivery of registered point clouds takes 24-48 hours after the scan session is complete.
